BELIEVE IN YOURSELF !!!

Belief in yourself is the first step towards success. This was the first thought that I came across during my first job. It was framed on the wall. This thought got struck into my head. When I came across this thought that time I really didn't get the meaning but I have the habit of storing things in my mind and when the time comes automatically I got the meaning of this thought. I realized that whenever I achieved any success it was all started because I had believed in me that I can achieve it.
This thought is so true. When you belief that you can do something that is the start of the achieving what you want. So your success in anything depends on what are your beliefs. We should keep a check on our beliefs. If something is going wrong then I would suggest first check your beliefs i.e.; your thoughts. Write down whatever comes to your mind. Then analysis your thoughts you will automatic find where the problem lies. For example; you want to learn dance. But in past, when you dance you got criticize by your friend. And his statement got struck into your head and you drop the idea of learning dance. But every time when you see anyone dancing well you get frustrated. Why? Because you get inferiority complex that you can't dance like that. Solution to this is challenge the thought which is in your head that you can't dance well. Until you try how you know that what you are thinking is right. Go ahead and start dancing and start learning. Don't be afraid to make mistake. Find out where are you going wrong and work on to rectify it. This way you will improve.
Many people because of their limiting beliefs have not achieved what they want. And this resulted in unhappiness and frustration in such people's life. Always challenge your beliefs. Give your 100%. This way you will be sure about yourself and won't create unhappiness and frustration in your life. As you know you gave your best shot. The best way is to treat yourself as you will treat your best friend. Do you motivate your friend when he/she is down or make them feel miserable? I am sure you always try to make your friends happy. Treat yourself the same way.
Limiting belief or negative belief does no good to you, it paralyze your mind. You do nothing and automatically situations take control. That's why so much important is given to positive thinking. Positive belief opens many doors for you.

HOW TO OVERCOME YOUR FEARS ?

Fear can prevent you from making positive changes in your life. Sometimes even the smallest changes in life can seem like a big struggle because of fear. We all have fear of something or the other. And the best way to overcome fear is to face it.

Following is the story by Swami Vivekananda ( The complete works of Swami Vivekananda Vol.1 )

"Once when I was in Varanasi, I was passing through a place where there was a large tank of water on one side and a high wall on the other. It was in the grounds where there were many monkeys. The monkeys of Varanasi are huge brutes and are sometimes surly. They now took it into their heads not to allow me to pass through their street, so they howled and shrieked and clutched at my feet as I passed. As they pressed closer, I began to run, but the faster I ran, the faster came the monkeys and they began to bite at me. It seemed impossible to escape, but just then I met a stranger who called out to me, "Face the brutes." I turned and faced the monkeys, and they fell back and finally fled. That is a lesson for all life — face the terrible, face it boldly. Like the monkeys, the hardships of life fall back when we cease to flee before them. If we are ever to gain freedom, it must be by conquering nature, never by running away. Cowards never win victories. We have to fight fear and troubles and ignorance if we expect them to flee before us."

ATTITUDE TO ADOPT WHILE HELPING SOMEONE !

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. "
- Chinese Proverb
It's a wonderful proverb. If we always think before helping anyone how we can teach him so that he doesn't require the same help in future. We have helped him perfectly. I always belief in "where there is will, there is a way" so if you really want to help someone in that way you will surely find a way to do so. I came across one excellent and real example of this in one talent show called "Marathi Paul Padte Pudhe" on 14-03-2011 at 9.30pm (I.S.T). The show is in Marathi but I will translate the story in English here in my own words.

Following is the real experience of Vasant Ingole, Nagpur.

Vasant Ingole was in his village, when he saw a dog that was very skinny and hungry and without an owner. The dog went to a house looking for food. From that house a man threw a stone at it. Dog got sacred and ran away. Again he went to another house as he was very hungry, same thing happened there and the dog had to run away.

All this was witness by Mr. Ingole, he felt really bad for the dog. So he went at his house, asked his mother for 2 breads. His mother gave him 4 breads. Now after taking the food suddenly Mr. Ingole got a taught that today he will satisfy the dog's hunger but what about tomorrow and in the future. How will the dog survive?

He got an idea. He went to the dog. He took 1 bread in his right hand and offers it to the dog. Dog ate it. Then he took 1 bread in his left hand and offers it to the dog. As soon as the dog came to eat it, he hit the dog on its face with his right hand. He didn't allow the dog to eat the bread which he was offering from his left hand. Again he offers the bread to the dog with his right hand and this time he allowed the dog to eat it and again when he offered the bread from his left hand to the dog. He hit the dog and didn't allow it to eat the bread. He did this many times. Now what happen was the dog got a lesson that if someone offers it food from his right hand, dog can eat it. But if someone offers it the food from left hand, it will get beating and won’t get to eat.

Now Mr. Ingole spread the story of this dog in his village that there is a dog that eats food only when you offer it from your right hand and not if you offer it the food from your left hand. Everyone got curious, wanted to see it for themselves. To test this people started to offer food to the dog. People got amazed and the dog got famous. And now the dog is never hungry as there is someone or the other to feed him to notice his unique behaviour.

Just a thought can change someone's life. Mr. Ingole wanted to take care of the dog's food requirement for the lifetime. Just by thinking how to do so, he came across a very good idea. This changed the dog’s life.

You can watch Mr. Ingole performing and sharing the above story in the following video.

DON'T QUIT

Life is all about up's and down. There are times in your life when we lose hope and we quit. Later we realise that had we tried a little more we would have succeeded. There is a famous quote which is "Winners never quit, and quitters never win." The point is give your best shot and wait for the result.

We can also learn a lot from some famous people. Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he made the electric light. Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with motor neurone disease when he was 21 but he never let this disease stop him from following his passion and achieving a life of happiness. Abraham Lincoln had all the setbacks, challenges and tragedies to survive on his way to becoming president of the United States. There are many more people like this in this world. Look around you will find may so do not be discouraged if you fail a few times.

Following is an inspirational story which will help you to keep moving.

One day I decided to quit…I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality… I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God. “God”, I asked, “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”

His answer surprised me…“Look around”, He said. “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?”

“Yes”, I replied.

“When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

He said. “In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit.”

He said. “Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant…But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.”

He asked me. “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots”. “I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.” “Don’t compare yourself to others.”

He said. “The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern.
Yet they both make the forest beautiful.” “Your time will come”, God said to me. “You will rise high” “How high should I rise?”

I asked. “How high will the bamboo rise?”

He asked in return. “As high as it can?”

I questioned. “Yes.”

He said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.”

"WHATEVER HAPPENS, HAPPENS FOR GOOD"

"Whatever happens, happens for good." I have heard this statement some years ago. This statement got struck in my head. I started to think about it a lot. I analyse every situation to see whether this statement hold some truth. I found mixed answers when I analyse all my past and current situations. But as time goes by, I realise that yes, this statement is correct. I came to know about this statement through a story. It was from Akbar Birbal Stories. Following is the Story:

Once Akbar the mughal emperor and Birbal, his minister were having a chat. While cutting a fruit, Akbar cut his finger slightly and was upset about it. Birbal said “Jahapana, whatever happens is for your good. Do not worry”. This irked Akbar and he wanted to score it even with Birbal. He takes him for hunting trip at the end of the day they are tired. Akbar asks Birbal to get down into an abandoned well and fetch water. After Birbal got down, Akbar pulled the rope up, said, “Birbal stay there, what ever happens is for your own good”, and left him there. Wandering in the Jungle, Akbar lost his way back and was captured by the Tribes, who decided to offer him as a sacrifice to Goddess Kali. Just before chopping his head off, one of them sees the cut on his finger, asserted that he was not perfect, and hence cannot be offered as “Bali” and they released him. Akbar realized Birbal’s words and repented for leaving him in the well and went back to get him. When Akbar explains what happened and apologizes to Birbal for his act, Birbal says “Jahapana, good that you left me, else they would have killed and offered me to kali instead of you”.

When you keep in mind things happens to us or others is for  our  own good. It helps us to be at peace with ourselves.

A wonderful story on Positive thinking

Jerry is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!" He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant.

The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?" Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.

I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested. "Yes, it is," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life."

I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gun point by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. “The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or I could choose to die. I chose to live."

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked. Jerry continued, "...the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man.'

I knew I needed to take action." " What did you do?" I asked. "Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes,' I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Bullets!' Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.'

Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.

PEACE !!!

Peace means clamness. It is the mental state of being free from agitation, excitement or disturbance.

Peace Quotes

"A smile is the beginning of peace."
- Mother Teresa

"Let loose of what you can't control. Serenity will be yours."

"Be happy in the moment - that's enough. Each moment is all we need - not more."
- Mother Teresa

"Don't fill your time with worry - fix what you can and let the rest take care of itself."

Story on Peace

There once was a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures. But there were only two he really liked, and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all.

But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest - in perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize? The king chose the second picture. Do you know why?

"Because," explained the king, "peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace."

GENEROSITY

Photo from Flickr by Mr. Kris.
Mahatma Gandhi went from city to city, village to village collecting funds for the Charkha Sangh. During one of his tours he addressed a meeting in Orissa. After his speech a poor old woman got up. She was bent with age, her hair was grey and her clothes were in tatters. The volunteers tried to stop her, but she fought her way to the place where Gandhiji was sitting. "I must see him," she insisted and going up to Gandhiji touched his feet. Then from the folds of her sari she brought out a copper coin and placed it at his feet.

Gandhiji picked up the copper coin and put it away carefully. The Charkha Sangh funds were under the charge of Jamnalal Bajaj. He asked Gandhiji for the coin but Gandhiji refused. "I keep cheques worth thousands of rupees for the Charkha Sangh," Jamnalal Bajaj said laughingly "yet you won't trust me with a copper coin." "This copper coin is worth much more than those thousands,"

Gandhiji said. "If a man has several lakhs and he gives away a thousand or two, it doesn't mean much. But this coin was perhaps all that the poor woman possessed. She gave me all she had. That was very generous of her. What a great sacrifice she made. That is why I value this copper coin more than a crore of rupees."

THE STORY OF A BUTTERFLY

Photo from Flickr by Mike Hartz
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.
One day a small opening appeared.
He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours
as it struggled to squeeze its body through the tiny hole.
Then it stopped, as if it couldn't go further.

So the man decided to help the butterfly.
He took a pair of scissors and
snipped off the remaining bits of cocoon.
The butterfly emerged easily but
it had a swollen body and shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch it,
expecting that any minute the wings would enlarge
and expand enough to support the body,
Neither happened!
In fact the butterfly spent the rest of its life
crawling around.
It was never able to fly.

What the man in his kindness
and haste did not understand:
The restricting cocoon and the struggle
required by the butterfly to get through the opening
was a way of forcing the fluid from the body
into the wings so that it would be ready
for flight once that was achieved.

Sometimes struggles are exactly
what we need in our lives.
Going through life with no obstacles would cripple us.
We will not be as strong as we could have been
and we would never fly.
