DON'T QUIT

Life is all about up's and down. There are times in your life when we lose hope and we quit. Later we realise that had we tried a little more we would have succeeded. There is a famous quote which is "Winners never quit, and quitters never win." The point is give your best shot and wait for the result.

We can also learn a lot from some famous people. Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he made the electric light. Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with motor neurone disease when he was 21 but he never let this disease stop him from following his passion and achieving a life of happiness. Abraham Lincoln had all the setbacks, challenges and tragedies to survive on his way to becoming president of the United States. There are many more people like this in this world. Look around you will find may so do not be discouraged if you fail a few times.

Following is an inspirational story which will help you to keep moving.

One day I decided to quit…I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality… I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God. “God”, I asked, “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”

His answer surprised me…“Look around”, He said. “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?”

“Yes”, I replied.

“When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

He said. “In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit.”

He said. “Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant…But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.”

He asked me. “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots”. “I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.” “Don’t compare yourself to others.”

He said. “The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern.
Yet they both make the forest beautiful.” “Your time will come”, God said to me. “You will rise high” “How high should I rise?”

I asked. “How high will the bamboo rise?”

He asked in return. “As high as it can?”

I questioned. “Yes.”

He said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.”

SIMPLIFYING YOUR LIFE

Simplifying life means get clear what we want out of life. It means doing what is important to us and eliminating the rest. Simplifying is necessary as today’s world is very demanding and if we are not sure what we want we will get caught up in doing what we don’t want and waste our precious time which we would have utilized for fulfilling our wants. We can’t afford to waste time as time doesn’t wait for anyone. Once it is gone, it is gone forever. And we all have limited time in this world so it is better to utilize our time in the things which we want to do. This way we will be much happier and in peace.

Following are the some benefits of simplifying our life:

1. We are less stressful.

2. Our lifestyle is healthy.

3. We do work that is really important to us.

4. We spend quality time with our loved ones.

5. We have time for ourself.

6. There is enjoyment in life.

7. There is clarity in our life.

8. We achieve more and quickly.

Now point is how we simplify our life. Following are my pointers to simplify our life.

1.  Brainstorm

It is very important to know what you want out of life. As it will give you direction and you will live a very fulfilling life. Determine what is important to you in all areas of your life i.e., Relationship, Finances, Career, Learning/ Personal Development, Social, Spiritual, Health, Home, Travel, Fun. If you don’t know what is important to you currently then think what you don’t want this way you will know what you want.

2.  Re-evaluate

Once you have the list of your wants in each area of life. Go back and check the list again and ask yourself whether all the things you have mentioned are really what you want or you just taught you wanted it. If you get confident "yes" for all your wants then that’s what you want. Things which you think you don’t want cancel it immediately.

3.  Time Based

Now from your list determine which of your wants are achievable in short time frame and which will take a longer time. Make a separate list for your short term and long term wants. Short term should be from 0 to 5 years time frame and long term above 5 years.

4.  Action Steps

Determine what you need to do to fulfill your each want. Just write down what you think you need to do and also ask if possible someone whom you know as already achieved what you want.

5.  Execution

Select 3 of your shortest time frame wants and start taking steps to get what you want. Once a want is achieved tick it off from your list and add the next want. This way you will sooner achieve your entire list.
